Voted top wellness culinary retreat by Departures / Travel & Leisure Magazine, this experience will leave you feeling indulged, refreshed, relaxed, invigorated, and pampered. Join us at the award-winning Borgo di Carpiano. This 400-year-old castle of Carpiano dates back to the beginning of the X century when it belonged to Rovaldo Baldassini, father of Sant'Ubaldo, patron saint of the town of Gubbio.
In 2001 Riccardo & Marilisa Parisi discovered the old hamlet and immediately fell in love with that "pile of rocks" dreaming to bring life back at the Borgo. The restoration took many years of devotion and was carried out using original materials and preserving the character of the place. Most of the furniture, paintings, china, and silver are from the owners family collection.
Riccardo & Marilisa instill decadent, luxurious charm into the entire retreat, as they deliver menus featuring high quality ingredients, local specialities "zero miles food, " homemade bread and cakes, and genuine countryside hospitality. The cuisine is based on typical Umbrian products, with fresh organic vegetables and extra virgin olive oil from the garden. A glass of the local Sagrantino di Montefalco wine, a sprinkling of truffles from Norcia on a homemade tagliatella noodle and good company are the main ingredients for an amazing culinary experience, each day.
The former church has been restored and converted into a unique library and drawing room, respecting the historic architecture and preserving the original frescoes. This is where we gather each morning and evening for our practice.
September/October is the perfect time to visit Umbria – It’s time for harvesting olives, grapes, chestnuts – the villages are lively – the leaves are changing and the fresh mountain air has a certain kind of Italian magic about it. We invite you to join our amazing group of travelers and yogis on this deeply rich yoga and travel experience.
Awaken on your own time into the serenity of a 400-year-old castle, dedicated solely to our retreat week. Enjoy a light breakfast as you gaze upon the beauty of the Italian countryside. Take a run through the paths surrounding the borgo, or relax in solitude around the infinity pool that overlooks the amazing scenery of Umbria. The group meets in the borgo's former chapel for an awakening yoga and meditation session, followed by a light breakfast.
Lunch is a light farm-to-table meal, using local, Umbrian produce, much of which is taken from right outside your door. Enjoy a glass of local wine as you take in the fresh air. The rest of the afternoon is yours to do with it what you please. A massage, a swim in the infinity-salt-water pool, lounging with a book, hiking around the grounds, visiting the onsite garden, or taking a rejuvenating nap are all within your grasp. If you are interested in exploring the region more, there is a daily shuttle into Gubbio, a wine-tasting event at another 10th-century castle nearby, a cooking class with the onsite chef, a painting class, and much much more. Other add-on options include trips to the religious center of Assisi and Perugia, known for its sweets.
We close the day out with another broadening yoga session. Various types of yoga are taught throughout the week and our skilled instructors ensure that all levels are accounted for. A flutist plays as we end our practice and then joins us for dinner as we listen to similar melodies played within the same walls, 400-years ago. We then enjoy an aperitivo on the veranda, followed by an elegant, 3-course Italian dinner under the stars. After dinner, head out to enjoy some star gazing over the Umbrian Countryside, move by the fireplace with new friends for a nightcap, or head back to your cozy room for an early bedtime.
